How to Organize Your Home with Purpose and Emotion
Oh, hi there! Are you new to our community?
We're so glad you’re here. At Little Green Bow, we're all about simplifying the difficult stuff to help make your days easier. After you've finished checking out our article below, we invite you to learn more about how we can help HERE.
Have you ever walked into a room and had your emotion change immediately?
Perhaps you walked into a spa for a massage and you felt relaxed. Or you grabbed a coffee at the new cafe in town and the ambiance put a little extra pep in your step for the day.
The truth is that our environment effects our moods and emotions.
Now, look around your home…what emotions do you feel? Are they the ones you want to feel when you’re home?
If not, you can do something about it.
Creating the emotions you want to feel in your home starts with questioning your space and labeling it’s purpose. More often than not, the spaces in our homes perform double duty so it’s extremely important to highlight each room’s purpose and be clear on the emotions you want to feel when you are in the space.
For instance, the purpose of your living room might be the gathering place of your home. So the emotions you want to feel when you are there could focus around being loved, joyful, and together.
Your bedroom might be a place for rest and relaxation so the emotions you feel there could be romantic, at peace, and relaxed.
The following is a list of nearly 600 descriptive and positive emotions (I’m going to assume you don’t want to feel negatively at home) to help you pinpoint the top emotions you want to feel in each room as part of The QUICK Way to Declutter and Organize Your Home.
And if you have stumbled across this and have no idea what I’m talking about, The QUICK Way to Declutter and Organize Your Home is my tried-and-true method of clearing your home of the stuff you no longer want or need so you can make room for your family, friends, and give yourself more time to enjoy your life.
Now back to this list…sometimes, we’re so overwhelmed, we’re not sure what emotions we want to feel and so I created this giant list of positivity to help you find it. We all have a lot going on these days and there’s no need to feel bad if your brain is having a hard time coming up with the perfect descriptive word. I’ve got your back.
Below are the 10 most common descriptive words I see used to describe each of the rooms in your home. I have also included over 400 positive emotion words so you’re practically guaranteed to find the right words you’re looking for.
And remember, your home is YOUR SPACE so it’s fine for words to overlap or for you to use words not on this list. This is just a great place to start.

Now that you have a list of descriptive words and positive emotions, it’s your turn to walk around your home and give each room a purpose. While you’re there, list out the 3 emotions you want to feel when you are in each room and when you are home as well.
Once you have set your intention, it becomes much easier to declutter and organize your space. When things don’t fit with the purpose, emotion, or intention, they need to be moved to the appropriate room or gotten rid of (preferably donated or given away).
And if you want help with decluttering and organizing your home, check out my QUICK Way Decluttering Mini-Course. It’s a 5-Day email series that will walk you through the 5 simple steps to finally get the clean and tidy house of your dreams. It’s the process I use and I’ve taught so many others so I know it can and will work for you too. Sign up below.
